The units used: 1 liter = 0.001 cubic meters = 1.057 quarts 1 gram = 0.001 kilograms, which on Earth weighs 0.0022 pounds 1 meter = 1.094 yards 1 Newton (the force which will accelerate a mass of 1 kg at a rate of 1 m/s2) = the weight of 0.225 pounds 1 Watt = 0.0014 horsepower* 1 poundal (the force which will accelerate a mass of 1 pound at rate of 1 foot/s2) = 0.138 Newtons = the weight of 0.031 pounds 1 dyne (the force which will accelerate a mass of 1 gram at a rate of 1 cm/s2) = 10-5 Newtons = the weight of 2.25 millionths of a pound or about the weight of a mosquito 1 foot-pound (the torque exerted by a force of one pound with a moment arm of 1 foot) = 1.36 Newton-meters 1 erg = 10-7 Joules = 2.8 x 10-14 kilowatt-hours, or about the energy needed for a mosquito to do a pushup 1 calorie (the amount of energy needed to heat a gram of water by 1 degree C) = 0.001 Calories (the kind weight-watchers count) = 4.18 Joules = 1.16 x 10-6 kilowatt-hours 1 degree Centigrade is as big a change in temperature as 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit Most of the above conversions were obtained from the Google units converter.
